Summit Routes
  • Route Name: Sussex Branch to Summit -by- Jeff Bennett
Start: Sussex Branch Trail parking lot
    End: Summit of Allamuchy North
Description: Park at the parking lot for the Sussex Branch Trail on Waterloo Road. At the kiosk closer to the road you will find trail maps of limited utility. About 20' from the gate at the end of the parking lot the 517/Waterloo trail will begin (white marked) begins. Cross the bridge and begin your hike. The trail crosses a stream on a bridge and then goes to the left to avoid a steep slope. The Pebble Loop(yellow marked) comes in from Waterloo mountain a half mile from the trailhead. The 517/Waterloo and Pebble trail is coaligned with the Pebble Loop (yellow marked) trail for a mile. After the departure of the Pebble Loop you will come into view of a swampy lake. You may be able see Allamuchy North through the trees at this point. After crossing over the outlet of the lake on a wooden bridge the climb of Allamuchy North begins. After passing an escarpment you will notice Private Property signs. Don't worry, the trail doesn't actually veer onto private property at any point. After descending a valley you should see a sign marked "Ice Cream" on the left. The trail here follows the property line to the summit of Allamuchy North. (all distances are approximate)
