Description: Kanouse Mountain is a geologic cousin of its western neighbor, Bearfort Mountain. Kanouse Mountain extends from a gap carved by the Pequannock River in the south all the way to Pinecliff Lake, with its highest points being to the west and southwest of Echo Lake. The very summit is an open field with decent, though partially obstructed, views.

Kanouse Mountain has a steep eastern face with cliffs and boulder fields. The best view of all is at the very southern end of Kanouse, overlooking Route 23 and the Charlotteburg Reservoir. Heads up just in case the authors of Weird NJ are reading this, but the southern viewpoint has a large, standing, metal star erected on it.

Note: Kanouse was named for a family who lived in the area.
