Description: This mountain is privately owned except for a few holdings of the Rockport Wildlife Management Area. Though the RWMA's property is only a fraction of the mountain, the USGS "Pohatcong" benchmark in the summit contour is within the wildlife management area's boundaries: Map
Upper Pohatcong Mountain is a hard-core peakbagger's mountain. Reaching the flat summit requires difficult bushwacking through pricker bushes and careful avoidance of private property. The mountain is viewless and does not even offer interesting rock formations or pleasing streams.
The only views from Upper Pohatcong are from several powerline cuts on the mountain and from a field just above the State Pheasant farm.
The reward of Upper Pohatcong is getting to see the pleasing agricultural area that it is located in.
