Description: Allamuchy Mountain is the highest point in Allamuchy Mountain State Park, but it has almost no views or steep climbs from the officially maintained trails. The summit consists of rolling ups and downs in open forest with blueberry bushes and lots of sunshine. You cannot see I-80 from anywhere on the mountain, but you can hear it from the summit. The climb from Stuyvesant Road on the Ditch/Cardiac Trail (yes, that's its real name) requires 600' of vertical gain.

Summit Routes
  • Route Name: Ditch/Cardiac -by- Jeff Bennett
    Start: Stuyvesant Rd
    End: Anywhere you want.
Description: The trail up Allamuchy Mountain is called the Ditch/Cardiac Trail and has purple blazes. The hardest part of the Ditch/Cardiac Trail is finding the trailhead. Stuyvesant Road is an unsigned, dirt road leading east from Rt. 517. Drive in for a half mile and you will find a kiosk and a small parking area. The parking area will have a sign saying Waterloo/517 Trail (marked in white). Maps will be in the kiosk for you to use. The Waterloo/517 trail also goes near the summit of Allamuchy Mountain North.
