Description: Waterloo Mountain rises steeply above Waterloo Lake and the Musconetcong River. The true summit is a small, viewless cone, but there are cliffs which offer expansive views to the south and east.

Waterloo Mountain is well-covered by the Pebble Trail (marked yellow). In conjunction with the 517-Waterloo Trail, the Pebble circles Waterloo mountain, passing by some views and a gigantic glacial erratic. The true summit is off trail, near the Pebble Trail/Highlands Trail junction.

  • Route Name: Waterloo Mountain via HT -by- Eric Koppel
    Start: CR-604 (Waterloo Road)
    End: CR-604 (Waterloo Road)
Description: This hike begins at the intersection of the Highlands Trail with County Route 604, just near the entrance to Waterloo Village. There should be a field with a gravel patch that fits a handful of cars where one can park. Follow the Highlands Trail northbound, heading steeply up Waterloo Mountain. There will be one or two obstructed viewpoints followed by the grand viewpoint. A short bushwhack from the grand viewpoint will bring one to the eastern summit candidate for Waterloo Mountain.
